Carl Jung said that therapy is about having a "corrective emotional experience". It
is just that. It corrects for those areas in one's life that are out of balance, or are
not working quite right, or that need correction. It is also transformative. It changes
the way we see ourselves and the world around us and the people in our lives. It gives us
a new and clearer perspective.
From gaining a clearer perspective, "doing the work" of therapy allows us
to walk along our chosen path with a minimum of interruptions or obstacles
that interfere with the achievement of our goals. It is a great gift, to be
able to make choices that are based on our own conscious wants and needs as
adults, and that are truly free from the encumbrances of unconsciousness. Becoming
one's own unique self is truly the way to happiness and self-fulfillment, and is
a major goal of this work.
